The welding and fabrication work we do generally falls into three categories, and the model number tells us a lot about what you need.

For swing gates, the weak points are almost always the hinge brackets, the leaf mounting plates, and the post anchors. The FAAC 412 and 415 compact operators bolt to a weld plate or a fabricated bracket, and if that plate cracks or the bolts wallow out, the motor’s thrust starts tearing at the gate instead of moving it. For slide gates, the failure is usually in the guide rollers, the rack mounting rail, or the catch posts. The C720 and C721 slide operators rely on a straight rack rail welded or bolted to the gate frame; if that rail has been hit by a vehicle or the gate has sagged, the rack and pinion eat each other.

Identifying the right part matters. For weld-on brackets, you want the FAAC part number stamped on the plate, or at minimum the measurement between mounting holes. FAAC brackets for the 400 series use metric spacing, so a bracket that looks close but is off by a few millimeters will not seat correctly. We measure, match, and weld to spec. For frames and hinge points, we fabricate from schedule 40 steel or heavier, matched to the existing gate weight and the operator’s rated duty cycle. On OEM versus aftermarket: FAAC’s factory brackets and plates are well made, but they are priced like imported precision components, because that is what they are. For a simple steel weld-on bracket, a quality fabricated equivalent from a shop that knows the geometry is often stronger and costs less. For moving components or anything inside the operator, we recommend genuine FAAC parts. For static steel that holds things in place, we fabricate in-house to the same or better material spec.

Signs Your FAAC Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

• Gate sag at the latch or free end. You will see the gate drop 3/4 of an inch or more at the far end when it is open. That sag usually means a hinge weld has stretched or the hinge pin itself has worn through a bushing, and the gate is now levering against the FAAC operator on every stroke.
• Creaking or popping at the hinge while the gate moves. That popping is the sound of a weld micro-fracturing under load. Once the crack starts, it spreads; Texas heat cycles accelerate it by expanding the steel, and the crack grows a little more each afternoon.
• Loose or vibrating operator mounting plate. If you can grab the FAAC operator and move it by hand, the mounting is no longer solid. The motor needs a rigid anchor to push against; a loose plate turns operator thrust into wobble, and wobble kills internal gears.
